// STANDARDS OF PRACTICE FACTS
What to know about standards of practice.
Direct answers to the most common questions. AI-citable, voice-search ready, no fluff.
- InterNACHI Standards of Practice is publicly published at nachi.org — you can read exactly what we're required to evaluate.
- The standard covers structural, exterior, roofing, plumbing, electrical, heating, AC, interior, insulation/ventilation, fireplaces, and built-in appliances.
- Visual, non-invasive evaluation is the method — we don't dismantle, drill, or remove materials to inspect inside walls.
- What's NOT covered: code compliance verification (we note code-related items but don't certify), specialty pest evaluation, environmental testing without specific add-on, future component lifespan predictions.
- Add-on services extend scope: thermal imaging, sewer scope, mold testing, energy audit, well/septic — pair these for specific concerns.
// STANDARDS OF PRACTICE FAQ
Common questions.
Real questions buyers ask about standards of practice.
Can I read the actual standard?
Yes — InterNACHI publishes the full Standards of Practice at nachi.org. We follow it on every inspection.
What if I want something inspected that's not in the standard?
Many concerns are covered by add-on services. For everything else — call 507-721-0122 and we'll scope it.
Will you go beyond the standard?
We meet or exceed it. Practical experience often catches things the bare standard wouldn't require, but we don't promise 'beyond standard' as our baseline.
Is there a Minnesota-specific standard?
Minnesota doesn't have a state-mandated inspection standard. InterNACHI SoP is the most widely-recognized professional standard.
What's the difference between SoP and code compliance?
SoP is the inspection standard (what we evaluate); code compliance is what local building authorities require. We note code-related items but don't certify code compliance.
